Uncovering the Art and Music of Alto’s Odyssey: The Lost City
Since the release of Alto’s Odyssey back in 2018, we’ve had many lovely messages from fans letting us know that one of the key elements bringing them back to the game has been the warm and inviting soundscape created by long term musical and audio collaborator Todd Baker.
So, when the opportunity to create a special edition of Alto’s Odyssey for Apple Arcade arose, we knew right away that crafting a new and unique biome for players to explore would provide us with the perfect excuse to bring Todd back to work his magic once more!
The setting of our newest biome leads Alto and friends to venture into a long-lost city beneath the endless desert, which, unlike our previous biomes, is filled with light and other signs of human inhabitance. The tonal shift in this new environment called for a brand-new musical identity — one that further reflected the visual signs of life through its lively pace and vocal melodies. The vocals you hear in the track — which are completely unique to this biome — were recorded by the exceptionally talented UK-based multi-instrumentalist and performer Lucie Treacher, who is one of Todd’s regular collaborators.
Today we’re excited to be sharing the soundtrack of Alto’s Odyssey: The Lost City, which you can now stream via your preferred streaming platform, as well as stream or purchase via Apple Music and Bandcamp.
To accompany the launch of the soundtrack, Todd has also put together a rather special ‘one-man band’ arrangement of the song — having even learned to play the low whistle, especially for this piece! We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we have enjoyed seeing it come together over the past few weeks.
Finally, to celebrate the music of The Lost City, we commissioned UK-based illustrator Ollie Hoff to put together a beautiful, stylised poster of the new biome.
You can order your very own print to frame for your home office or bedroom here today, or perhaps you could surprise an Alto fan in your life with a unique and vibrant piece of art for the holiday season! If ordered during the first week of December, the print ought to arrive by the 25th. Unfortunately, orders made past this time may arrive later due to COVID related shipping delays.
Speaking of the holidays, with the end of 2021 approaching at an alarming rate, we wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your gracious ongoing support of all things Alto. While this year has been a challenging time for everyone, we are grateful for the many kind messages of support and encouragement you have shared with us. From hearing about the Alto titles bringing families together during lockdowns, to seeing your beautiful Alto inspired art pieces, we couldn’t hope for a warmer, friendlier community.
