It’s hard to believe that almost an entire month has gone by since we shared Laya’s Horizon with the world. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been paying close attention to everyone’s thoughts on our recent title and we couldn’t be more grateful for the positive words and feedback we’ve received so far.

Throughout all stages of development, we hold each tweet, rating and review in high regard. Not only do they help in ensuring an enjoyable experience but they provide invaluable insights to what resonates most with our community.

In this review round-up, we’ll be taking a look at some stand-out reviews to see what critics have been saying about Laya’s Horizon.

Whether positive or constructive, reviews and features from our critics play a significant role in helping us understand how players perceive and interact with our games. They let us know that we’ve created an engaging experience for players while also letting the community know what to expect during their initial interactions with our games.

Andrew Webster, The Verge describes it as one of Netflix’s best games yet:

“In many ways, it’s an experience that builds on what the team has done in the past. Instead of boarding through procedurally generated 2D worlds, in Laya’s Horizon, players are soaring through a handcrafted 3D open-world island full of secrets to uncover. It’s one of the best games to hit Netflix’s fledgling gaming service to date.”

Jared Nelson names Laya’s Horizon as Toucharcade’s Game of the Week:

“I love it. The large open world and seemingly endless supply of things to do and accomplish mean that you’ll have fun just flying around but there’s also always some purpose to it, if you want, and always something new to explore or achieve. I’ve really only scratched the surface I think and I already can’t believe just how expansive this game is.”

Rupesh Nair, IGN India describes the game as a timeless title and gives Laya’s Horizon a 9.5/10:

“Snowman takes off to the stars with a timeless mobile title for players to relax while flying through various terrains. With innovative controls and serene environments to explore, Laya’s Horizon features an addictive and calming flight adventure that you’ll keep on coming back to.”

“Laya’s Horizon is another feather in the illustrious cap of Snowman as the flight adventure checks all the boxes for an addictive, calming and enthralling mobile experience.”

Pocketgamer.biz names Laya’s Horizon Mobile Game of the Week:

“Mobile gaming’s use of a touch screen interface makes it perhaps uniquely suited out of all genres to give players a truly tactile experience. It’s not just a case of moving a stick or pressing a button, the user gets a direct sense of how their actions are affecting the game.

Laya’s Horizon showcases this strength perhaps better than any other game. This quirky title is one that’s all about the journey, and cleverly translates the experience of flying onto touchscreens.”

Patrick O’Rourke, Mobile Syrup says that Laya’s Horizon is one of the best mobile games he’s played recently:

“As far as mobile titles go, Laya’s Horizon is one of the best I’ve played in recent memory. It features all the key ingredients that make games work on the platform, including a unique control scheme and a deceptively simple pick-up-and-play mentality.”

For John Voorhees, MacStories, the control scheme help bring more depth and intimacy to the game:

“There’s a lot to like about Laya’s Horizon, the brand-new mobile game from Snowman that’s available today on iOS, iPadOS, and Android via Netflix. However, it’s the game’s control scheme that elevates it to unique heights. Laya is by no means the first game to employ a simple two-finger control scheme. But, it’s the best I’ve tried, enabling a surprisingly deep and intimate gaming experience. Combined with Snowman’s excellent taste and attention to detail, Laya’s Horizon is incredibly fun and a game you won’t want to miss.”

Michael Potuck, 9to5Mac shares his appreciation for each unique element of the game:

“The attention to detail in the open mountain world is amazing and makes for a really immersive experience paired with the beautiful and dynamic original audio. There are so many rich elements in the game like updrafts, wind tunnels, rings, cliffs to dive down, bridges, villages, rivers, geysers, snow, caves, and so much more. The experience is so fun and diverse with Laya’s Horizon, I can’t recommend it enough.”

Dom Nero says it’s close perfect in Esquire’s Top 19 Best Video Games of 2023:

“Laya’s Horizon is a gorgeous and immersive third-person flying experience that feels very much in line with the colorful, ancient world of Skyward Sword. It’s as close to perfect as a mobile game gets. And it’s free to play with a Netflix subscription!”

Will Quikk, PocketGamer describes the game as a special experience and gives it a 4.5/5:

“Flying is something very empowering in games even when the game is based around it, but it’s all about keeping it special. Laya’s Horizon maintains a special feeling throughout the experience. The flying is done in a wonderful way that combines exhilaration with freedom while all the same time having a zen-like feeling.”

“Laya’s Horizon is a 3D adventure-exploration game about flying over lands around a tall mountain. It captures the grace and excitement of flying with a lovely presentation and engaging controls. All it requires from you is patience and a strong enough device to support all of its wonders as you get a feel for the gameplay. If you manage this, you can join Laya’s flight toward the horizon.”

Finally, Justin Diaz, Android Headlines believes that the game provides players with a unique gameplay experience:

“Sign up for Netflix for a month or two. Or even just a free trial if you have one available. Play through Laya’s Horizon and experience the wonder that it offers. And in between your flight sessions, enjoy whatever other content Netflix has that you can kick back and watch.”

“There are lots of mobile games, many of them worth your time. But few if any will provide you with a gameplay experience like Laya’s Horizon. In most cases I wouldn’t recommend getting a Netflix subscription just to play a game. But that isn’t the case here.”
