Lucky Luna

Exactly 1-year ago today, we took a leap into an exciting new chapter and embarked on a journey written in the stars alongside one of our latest heroines, Luna!

It’s truly been an incredible year. While we’ve been looking back and reflecting on all the support we’ve seen so far, it feels really rewarding to see how much everyone enjoys the game. It means so much to us to be able to see all the reactions and read all of the comments. It’s a special part of developing games and we’d like to thank everyone for being a part of this journey!

To celebrate this special occasion, we’ve put together a collection of some of the reviews, comments and fan art pieces that we’ve held close to our hearts.

Jared Nelson selected Lucky Luna as TouchArcade’s Game of the Week shortly after the game’s release:

“Lucky Luna wouldn’t be the first game to take a well-trodden genre and remove one of its key elements to create something new. In this case removing the jumping from a platformer. However, I think this will stand out as one of the best examples of doing such a thing, and in addition to that, it will leave a mark on players just for being an outstanding overall game on its own merits.”

“Lucky Luna is a tremendously impressive experience, and perhaps in an alternate reality where the mobile market didn’t turn out the way it did, it’s the kind of game people would have no problem paying $30 for on their mobile device. That’s not our reality though, so if you have a means to a Netflix subscription I very much recommend giving Lucky Luna all of your time.”

Andrew Webster, The Verge discusses his experience adjusting to the control scheme:

“The twist is the lack of a jump button. In fact, Lucky Luna doesn’t have on-screen buttons at all. To move, you simply swipe left or right; a hard swipe will see Luna dash across the screen, while lighter taps will result in smaller movements. Safely getting around involves using those limited options together with smart timing to avoid obstacles and get to the end of each stage.

I’ve played the first few levels, and while I can say that Lucky Luna is definitely pretty challenging, I was also surprised by how quickly I adapted to the lack of a jump button. After a few stages, I didn’t miss it at all; the vertical levels are cleverly designed around the swipe mechanic, which feels intuitive once you learn to let go of the jump. It’s sort of like the inverse of Super Mario Run, another mobile take on the platformer but one where jumping is the central way to interact with the world.”

Lucky Luna also received a 4/5 rating from Pocket Gamer’s Will Quick and was later nominated for Game of the Year for their Mobile Games Awards:

“When it comes to mobile gaming, it can be difficult to balance an experience between casual and engaging. However, Lucky Luna manages to pull it off through design and gameplay.”

“Though the degree of difficulty can be frustrating and intimidating to casual players, it’s still satisfying to complete them. Whether you’re looking for a challenging game on the go or a mystical adventure to jump into now and then, you should take a chance on Lucky Luna.”

Every single one of these pieces has left a lasting mark on us and to be recognized for this project is truly an honour. Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey and for making this year one to remember!

Lucky Luna is available for both iOS and Android players with a Netflix subscription. Head to the App Store or Google Play Store to play it today!
