10 Years of Alto’s Adventure
We’re celebrating a decade of our journey with Alto and friends.
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 10 whole years since Alto and the gang first set out on their journey.
When we first launched Alto’s Adventure in 2015, we could have never imagined the impact it would have. Seeing players around the world embrace the game with open arms was beyond anything we could have imagined and that feeling has never faded.
Over the years, fans from around the world have shared their heartfelt stories about how the games have left lasting impressions on their lives and we’re happy to see that the game has resonated with so many.
Founder & Creative Director of Land & Sea Games, Harry Nesbitt, reflects on the impact of the Alto series:
“I think for me, the most unexpected part of Alto’s journey has been how deeply it has resonated with people. We set out to make something small and personal, yet it became a kind of refuge for so many — something they turn to for comfort or a moment of peace. Seeing that impact has been really humbling, and it’s shaped the way we approach everything going forward.”
Looking back we feel nothing but immense gratitude for everyone who has joined us along the way and are reminded of the incredible community that has made it all possible.
Snowman’s Co-Founder, Jordan Rosenberg, shares some highlights of his journey with Alto:
“It’s cliché to say, but I truly can’t believe it’s been 10 years since Alto first came to life. A whole decade! It’s been an incredible journey watching so many people discover and connect with the game and seeing the creativity it has inspired, especially through the amazing fan art and stories players have shared over the years.
What’s even more special is that after all this time, I still find so much joy in playing it myself. To everyone who has ever picked up the game, whether you’ve been here since the beginning or just joined the adventure, thank you for being part of this ride. Here’s to many more years of Alto!”
We always love receiving Alto-inspired art pieces in our fans’ own unique styles. Whether it’s a beautiful landscape or a reimagined character, getting to see the world of Alto through your eyes is so special and continues to inspire us in our own work.
But nothing could have prepared us for seeing an Alto-inspired tattoo! It’s truly an honour to know that our game left such an impact that someone chose to have it permanently inscribed on their skin.
Stories and artworks like the ones above continue to remind us of why we do what we do. We truly believe that games have the power to bring moments of calm during stressful times and it fills our hearts to know that we’ve been able to provide that space for so many of you.
From the little interactions online in the comment section to meeting fans in person in the most unexpected places, we hold every opportunity to connect near to our hearts and we’re continuously reminded of how incredible and essential you all are through each milestone.
Snowman’s CEO & Co-Founder, Ryan Cash reflects on the most unexpected part of his journey on Team Alto:
“It’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that Alto’s Adventure has been out for ten years. In some ways, it feels like we launched it just yesterday — I still remember waking up at 4am and seeing the tweets pouring — and we hadn’t even officially announced the game. In other ways, it feels like a lifetime ago. The game has taken us on so many unexpected journeys, introduced us to incredible people and opened doors we never could have imagined.
When you make something digital you don’t necessarily get to interact with people who use the thing you made but with Alto (because it’s been quite far reaching) it actually happens from time to time. It’s these personal stories that people have shared that really stick. Every once in a while I’ll encounter someone who tells me they grew up playing Alto or it got them through a tough moment in their life. It’s always a bit hard to believe.
Most recently it was a barista at my local coffee shop. Her and I have had pretty in-depth conversations about life every week or two for the last few years but what I do for work never came up. Recently it did and she pulled out her phone and showed me both games. She said she’s been obsessed with the games ever since they came out and has beat every goal in both of them. Then there was the time I was in a car with an 18-year-old family friend who, after an hour of small talk, asked what I did for work. When I told him I worked on Alto, he practically lost his mind — he and his friends had spent hours playing it at school.
These kinds of moments — though few and far between — are always surreal. We made Alto because it was something we wanted to play ourselves — but knowing it’s become a part of so many people’s lives is something I’ll always be grateful for.”
